Racism and Diversity in Medicine

Caring for pediatric patients requires careful consideration of all pillars of health. Race and ethnicity, and in turn racism and biases in medicine, have a significant impact on the health of pediatric patients. It is important to recognize the impact of institutionalized and structural racism in health care, and in medical education. We, as a medical profession, are only just starting to address the harmful impacts these conscious and unconscious biases in medicine have on our patients, our colleagues, and society as a whole. Below, you will find some literature that addresses the issue of racism in medical education, and also how racism impacts our healthcare delivery.
